Off to a good start

A well-designed soother does more than calm. It becomes part of your baby’s early development.

In the first months of life, your baby’s jaw, palate and tongue are highly adaptable.

Their interaction influences:

That’s why the design of a soother matters.
It should work with these natural movements, not against them.

Designed for growing mouths

The Curaprox soother’s biofunctional design works with the natural function of your baby’s mouth. Curaprox has developed the soother with orthodontist Dr Herbert Pick, based on clinical experience and an understanding of infant oral development.

Its flat, flexible tip was developed with dental professionals to:

allow natural tongue movement

distribute pressure evenly

support balanced muscle activity

This supports the healthy development of the teeth, jaw and palate from the beginning.

Science behind the shape

Curaprox baby soothers are active: they work when the baby sucks. If the baby does not actively suck, the soother is not passively held in place.

During soothing, the shape matters. The Curaprox baby design is flat, broad and flexible, allowing space for natural tongue movement and helping distribute pressure across the palate differently than many rounder soothers.

A recent biomechanical study from University of Basel compared different soother shapes and found that the Curaprox baby design directs pressure more to the sides of the palate rather than mainly to the front. This supports the biofunctional design principle behind Curaprox baby: gentle soothing that respects natural oral development.

Clinical observations also reported encouraging results in selected children using the Curaprox soother, including improvements in open bite, jaw width development and tongue function.

When a baby still needs soothing, shape is not just a detail.

Frequently asked Questions

Unlike many conventional soothers that are designed mainly to stay in the mouth even without active sucking, the Curaprox soother is biofunctional and dentist-designed. Its flat, short and soft suction part works with a baby’s natural oral functions, encouraging active sucking, supporting natural tongue positioning, and allowing healthy jaw and palate development – instead of passively filling the mouth.

Size 0 is the everyday soother from birth.

Size 1 (1–2.5 years) and Size 2 (2.5+ years) are designed for children with persistent sucking habits, early minor irregularities, or when a larger soother is preferred.

Not sure which size is right? Size depends not only on age, but also on your child’s oral development and individual needs. For early minor irregularities, we recommend professional assessment.

A biofunctional soother can help support natural tongue position and swallowing patterns. This may reduce the risk of unfavourable development when used appropriately and in the correct size.

The correct size depends on your baby’s jaw development rather than age alone. The soother should fit comfortably in the mouth without stretching it or pressing on the palate. The Curaprox soother size 0 is suitable from birth and can typically be used until around the first year of life, depending on your baby’s individual development.

Yes. The Curaprox soother requires active sucking and supports natural tongue movement, similar to breastfeeding, which helps reduce the risk of nipple confusion.

Before first use, put the soother in boiling water for five minutes. Caution: Cool down well and squeeze out any remaining water before use – bacteria can spread in drops of water. Always allow it to dry completely.
